Take Your Professional Development to Sunny San Antonio

The ARC/STSA will hold its next Accreditation Fundamentals for Educators (AFE) Workshop on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020, prior to the Association of Surgical Technologists’ (AST) Educators Conference.

The AFE will be held in San Antonio, TX, at the Wyndham hotel. Similar to the May AFE Workshop, a mock Board of Directors meeting will be presented to review citations from a fictitious on-site visit. This exercise will be expanded to include additional hands-on learning and sample citations.

If you’re already thinking about the ARC/STSA Annual Report, you’re in good company. ARC/STSA Executive Director Ron Kruzel will give a presentation on the Annual Report on Friday, Feb. 7, providing attendees a sneak peek at upcoming changes to the 2020 report.

Attendees will also have an opportunity to learn about the ARC/STSA Site Visitor Program. An advanced session will be held Friday, Feb. 7 for current site visitors. Those interested in learning about on-site evaluations for the first time, or as a refresher, should join the training session on Saturday, Feb. 8.

Regardless of your level of experience, the AFE is a perfect opportunity to step back and assess your skills. “I’ve had 20 years of experience in surgical technology, but last year was my first on the educational side,” explained Jason Beasley, AAS, CST, a new instructor and surgical technology program director at Northcentral Technical College in Wausau, WI. “I attended the AFE workshop [in May 2019] because the amount of information each program is required to retain, organize and present is daunting. The workshop gave relatively detailed methods of organization and much more information on how to complete forms I had questions about. This workshop should be attended by everyone in surgical technology education, multiple times.”
